MSK

Is It Me? Series

WHAT WE'RE DOING

The Is It Me? Series was sparked from the professional experiences of MSK’s Founder & CEO, who’s also a Global Executive with over 20 years of experience navigating the psychological aspects of being a woman of color in corporate America.

As women, our first inclination, particularly in the workplace, is often to look inward when facing challenges rather than holistically assessing other factors within our environments.  We may find ourselves frequently pondering where we've fallen short, what we could have done differently - or, asking ourselves, "Is it me?"  This has been a subject of psychological and sociological research, producing several familiar scientific concepts such as Imposter's Syndrome and Attribution Theory.

Through the Is It Me? Series, MSK is taking a targeted approach to helping women understand and navigate the unique challenges they face in the workplace, as well as recognize and celebrate their individual value and successes. Click here for a recap of the inaugural installment.

WHY WE'RE DOING IT

The Is It Me? event series was designed to fill a void in professional development and advancement opportunities for women of color.  Many of us have navigated our careers absent a support system that acknowledges the invisible barriers, microaggressions, and disparate treatment that often underpin professional environments.

Through the Is It Me? Series, we set out to validate our lived experiences and share tailored resources and tactics to better equip other women in maneuvering within their own business endeavors.

The Is It Me? Series has been met with overwhelming interest as the first of its kind, and we are excited about its continued evolution.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

The "Is It Me?" event series has been exceptionally well-received, garnering acclaim from women of color across various industries. Here are a few testimonials from past attendees:

"The Is It Me?  event was very meaningful to me as a working class, Black female mother. It was very inspiring to see other women at the top of their game. The panel was not only professional but, most importantly, down to earth and relatable. It made me proud to see Black women with confidence and intelligence be unafraid and unapologetic about their ambitions.  I also admire that they did not let the adversities we often encounter in the workplace keep them from reaching both their business and personal goals."

Sadiqua F.

Educator, Veteran

"What I will take away from these dynamic women, not only in the panel but also the audience, is that we can empower each other. Oftentimes, women unconsciously put themselves in competition against one another instead of being enlightened and encouraged by their fellow sister. The fellowship felt throughout the event showed me that we have so many strengths amongst us to build a prosperous community of powerful, successful women in whatever way we each define success."

Amelia K.

Entrepreneur

"Is It Me? allowed me to be okay with however big or small my achievements were. To be my personal cheerleader and not be afraid to feel confident in my skills. The end goal in life and career is to be content mentally and physically with who you are and what you do as a working member of this society.  Everyone's success looks different. The panelists empowered me to not allow the negativity of others dim my shine, but rather use it as a mirror to radiate even brighter. I encourage everyone woman of color to experience an Is It Me? event as a refresher to remind us who we are and what we're capable of."
